The wait is over. Mowalola Ogunlesi's label is launching its long-awaited Air Jordan collaboration this month, with a “Something's Off” campaign shot by photographer and filmmaker Norbert Schoerner. The Lagos-born, London-based designer has built her name on clothes that draw from music, Nigerian culture, and leatherwork, and her past collaborations include Marc Jacobs, Ksubi, and Beats by Dre. This time, she found a long-term partner in Jordan Brand.
The collection is built around two takes on the Air Jordan 14. The lace-up pair comes in chocolate brown leather with a tartan pattern laser-etched into the upper, so every pair looks a little different, and Mowalola's signature is etched directly into the leather instead of stitched or printed. The second shoe is the one people will be debating: an Air Jordan 14 in metallic silver with the back cut off. The 14 has never been released as a laceless mule before.
The shoes are only part of the drop. The collection also includes oversized leather jackets, translucent tartan tracksuits, fitted vests, and Jordan-branded versions of Mowalola's signature microshorts. In the campaign, Alek Wek, Chxrry, Tezzus, and PZ’ wear the pieces in eerie scenes set inside an abandoned hotel, which suits the collection's title.
Mark your calendar for two dates. The collection launches first on Mowalola's website this Saturday, September 19, and a wider release through Nike and select retailers follows on September 26. Both pairs come in unisex sizing, reportedly priced at $255 for the brown lace-up and $180 for the silver mule. If you want the best shot, set up your account and save your payment details on Mowalola's site before Saturday. If you miss out, turn on your SNKRS notifications and try again the following week.
